Sweeney Production Team’s Creative Introduction
This show is a very dark telling of the story of a web of characters whose lives are interwoven around the Demon Barber of 19th century London. The creative team plans to commit to this raw darkness unabashed. Each character has distinctive personalities and relationships that drive the plot and paint the full story of the Demon Barber.
Beyond the powerful lead characters the large ensemble will play a pivotal role in the production giving the city life and authenticity. The ensemble will each have their own distinctive character that adds to this web, and will be part of a near everpresent showcase of story, vocals, and movement.
The choreographer is looking for expressive dancers to populate this dreadful and dreary world. We will add humanity through movement and acting using dance to amplify or embody the atmosphere of the scene from the macabre to the very rare glimmers of light or dream-like experiences. Dance will vary in style and range from lyrical interpretation to sharp or staccato expression of the musical and emotional themes of the performance.
There is a place in this show for just about every talent balance and ability to shine. Additionally we plan to include many featured roles musically and in movement including featured vocal solos in ensemble numbers, featured small group singing, complex partner dancing including lifts, featured lyrical and rhythmic dance, and what we’re calling “Table-ography” and “Mob-ography.” We cannot wait to share it with you!
For more information about character musical requirements and some hints about ensemble opportunities please see the Cast section on this page below.
If you want to meet the production team, directly ask any questions you have, or would like to know more about how the musical is different from the movie and how our creative team plans to stand out among Sweeney Todd productions, register for our Zoom Info night on Friday, August 5th from 7:00-9PM here.
We are looking forward to seeing you at auditions!
