Please fill out the required Audition Form
Auditioners will be brought up to the dance studio in groups of 5 where they'll perform their music, dance, and dramatics auditions.
Dance
A short Broadway style dance audition will be taught on the night of auditions. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can dance in. No videos of the audition dance will be posted ahead of time. We want to evaluate how well auditionees can learn a new dance. If an actor is interested in tap dancing, they'll be asked to do a simple tap sequence of their choosing (such as a Time Step). Further refinement of tappers will be done after the cast is chosen.
Dramatics
Sides from the script are listed below. You may be asked to read for multiple parts. There is no need to memorize the sides. We want to evaluate how well you can act (with some preparation), not just how well you can perform a cold reading.
- Leo + Max
- Ulla (Leo + Max)
- Franz (Leo + Max)
- Roger + Carmen (Leo + Max)
- HoldMeTouchMe + Max
- Ensemble Monologues
Music
Prepare 16-32 bars in Broadway musical theater style. For your song, please either bring sheet music for an accompanist to play for you, or bring a karaoke version of the song (no vocals) to play on a bluetooth speaker which will be provided. There is no requirement to memorize your music but it helps us evaluate how well you can "act your song" if you do.
Character Breakdown
Lead roles
Max Bialystock
The consummate con man. Naturally animated and bombastic, he is never at a loss for charm and manners. Typically conspires with Leo. Max is definitely a schmuck, but needs to come across as a lovable schmuck. Comic timing is incredibly important for this role.
