![]() The Wedding Singer is a 2006 musical with music by Matthew Sklar, book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Based on 1998 Film with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Set in New Jersey in 1985. Plot is typical boy meets girl both engaged to other “creeps” they fall in love in the final scene. The gimmick of the show is lots of 80’s humor and references sprinkled throughout show. Lead male Robbie aspires to be a rock star but never made it further than a performer in cheesy wedding band of 3 males. Robbie gets dumped at the alter by Linda. Julia’s engaged to Glen but really loves Robbie. Show has lots of other great comic relief characters like Robbie’s Grandmother Rosie and Julia’s side kick and friend Holly.
