Directors Notes

Elton John and Tim Rice’s musical rendition of Verdi’s original 1871 opera Aida brings the message and story to a more modern and, for those of us who are not big opera fans, more enjoyable level of theater. The musical Aida contains all the key elements for a powerful story. This is a passionate and tragic love story between the heroine Aida, a Nubian princess, who has been captured by the Egyptians, and Radames, a captain of the Egyptian army. We watch their romance evolve through backdrop of war, plundering, and oppression. Then we meet Aida’s Egyptian counterpart, the princess Amneris, who is presently engaged to Radames. The backdrop of war and violence is symbolic of the war that occurs within Aida, Radames, and Amneris as they struggle to come to terms with the choices that they must make not just for themselves, but for each other and their people. What makes this musical passionate and tragic is the Egyptian pyramid, or what we call a love triangle, between the three of them. As in every love triangle not everyone ends up with requited love and there are always consequences.

We would like to take this time to thank Actorsingers for giving us the opportunity to direct such a wonderful musical. It was really great to work and collaborate with Judy Hayward, our musical director, and Tina Cassidy, our choreographer. We are in awe of the level of talent not only that they both have but also what they each bring to the cast. Our tech crew was amazing to work with because of their amount of knowledge and professionalism which helped to bring this show alive. Lastly, we would like to thank our funny, hardworking, and devoted cast. We love you all.

Your Directors,

Kim and Larry
